On March 4, 1955, a 38-year-old male, Deputy Sheriff Edward “Red” Phillips, joined a fast-moving manhunt through the Union Pacific rail yards in Green River, Wyoming.
He and other officers spotted a man on the platform and ordered him to halt; the man dodged behind a railcar and opened fire.
