On the evening of January 12, 2020, a fatal shooting occurred in Eagle Pass, Texas, resulting in the death of 40-year-old Hispanic male Jose Armando Ramirez. Originally from Midland, Texas, Ramirez was found lying on the ground near the intersection of Rosita Valley Road and FM 1021 when Maverick County Sheriff's deputies arrived at approximately 10:03 p.m. Two pickup trucks—a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 and a 2003 GMC Sierra—were present at the scene.
Another man, identified as 31-year-old Luis Ramon Miranda, was observed using a cellphone nearby. For safety reasons, deputies detained Miranda and placed him in a patrol unit. Emergency Medical Services pronounced Ramirez deceased at the scene.
Following the incident, Luis Ramon Miranda was arrested in connection with the shooting and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center. The Maverick County Sheriff's Office initiated a criminal investigation, impounding both vehicles for further examination. As of the latest available information, the case remains under investigation, and no additional suspects have been identified or arrested.
Jose Armando Ramirez was born on September 3, 1979, and was a resident of Midland, Texas. He is survived by his two daughters, Iris Ramirez and Izeyda Ramirez; his mother, Olga Gomez; his father, Oscar Javier Ramirez; one brother; and three sisters. Funeral services were held on January 20, 2020, at Heavenly Gate Funeral Home in Midland, followed by burial at Serenity Memorial Gardens.
