Eduardo Reyes was a 28-year-old man described by those who knew him as loving, caring, and down to earth. He was known for his love of helping people, and his loss left a deep void for his family and friends, who prayed for justice in his name.
On the evening of June 30, 2020, police in El Paso, Texas, responded to a call about a shooting at an apartment complex in the 3800 block of Fillmore Avenue.
When officers arrived at the central El Paso address, located in the Lower Dyer area near Fort Bliss, they made a tragic discovery. Reyes was found shot to death in the doorway of his own apartment.
Detectives from the Crimes Against Persons unit immediately began a homicide investigation. Authorities initially announced that they were looking for several suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. As investigators gathered evidence and pursued leads, they were able to identify a primary suspect as the person responsible for shooting Reyes.
The investigation led police to name 21-year-old Cesar Armendariz Jr. of El Paso as the alleged shooter, and a warrant was issued for his arrest on a charge of murder. A search for the fugitive began, which soon crossed state lines. On July 9, 2020, U.S. Marshals Task Force officers located Armendariz in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was taken into custody without incident.
Following his capture, Armendariz was held in Oklahoma while awaiting extradition back to Texas. He was expected to be booked into the El Paso County Detention facility to face the murder charge. As of July 2020, the case was proceeding with Armendariz in custody.
