On August 7, 2020, 21-year-old Maximiliano Lara, a Hispanic male from Mathis, Texas, was tragically shot and killed. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning in the 400 block of Texas Avenue. Lara was sitting inside his pickup truck when he was shot. He managed to run away but collapsed in the yard of a nearby house. Investigators found shell casings on the passenger side of the truck and determined that a handgun was used in the shooting.
