John Usifo Olrunsog Oghayei, a 22-year-old male of Nigerian descent, tragically lost his life on February 14, 2021, in Houston, Texas. Initially, it was believed that Oghayei was the victim of a hit-and-run incident. However, upon further investigation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, it was determined that he had sustained a gunshot wound, and his death was ruled a homicide.
The Houston Police Department's Homicide Division took over the investigation, and Detectives
C. Sharp and E. May were assigned to the case. The investigation revealed that Oghayei was found unresponsive in the street at 9422 Harwin Drive around 3:30 a.m. Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene. The HPD urged anyone with information to come forward and contact the Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers.
In addition to the homicide investigation, there was an unrelated criminal case involving Oghayei. On December 16, 2020, the State of Texas filed a criminal lawsuit against him in Collin County Courts for an assault causing bodily injury. The case was still pending at the time of his death. The charges stemmed from an incident in Richardson, Texas, where Oghayei was accused of assaulting someone, leading to a warrant being issued for his arrest.
Despite the ongoing investigation and the pending criminal case, no arrests have been made in connection with Oghayei's murder as of the latest updates. The case remains open, and the Houston Police Department continues to seek information from the public to bring justice for John Usifo Olrunsog Oghayei.
