Christopher Rashaud “Lil Chris” Rogers Jr., a 17-year-old male of African American ethnicity from Lufkin, Texas, tragically died on April 27, 2021. He was found shot to death in his driveway in the 700 block of Rowe Avenue around midnight. The incident occurred after a heated exchange of words through rap songs distributed on social media platforms, including YouTube.
The Lufkin Police Department launched an investigation and identified four suspects affiliated with a rival gang from Nacogdoches. The suspects, Ahman “Monn” Hill , Zamoria “Z” Davis , Daquavion “Qua” Kidd , and Ta’Zyion “Dada” Douglas , were charged with Rogers’ murder. The investigation revealed that the suspects were retaliating against Rogers and his friend over the rap lyrics.
On August 6, 2021, Ta’Zyion Douglas turned himself in and was booked into the Angelina County Jail. The other three suspects were already in custody at the time of the warrants being served. The case highlighted the ongoing gang-related violence in the Lufkin and Nacogdoches areas, with both cities experiencing a rise in “drive-by” shootings.
The Lufkin Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit, along with additional officers volunteering extra shifts, patrolled areas where these shootings occurred to locate suspects and gather witness statements. The community was encouraged to report any suspicious activity to aid in the investigation.
