Initially, the incident was believed to be an accidental shooting. However, further investigation by the Harris County Sheriff's Office revealed that it was a homicide. Jose Olvera, a 29-year-old friend of Hernandez, was arrested and charged with manslaughter after admitting to accidentally shooting Hernandez while playing around with a gun.
