On the night of September 23, 2015, violence erupted in the North St. Louis neighborhood of Baden, claiming the life of 42-year-old Sean Dorsey. The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. in the 800 block of Canaan Avenue, a residential area where Dorsey was gathered outside a home with three other individuals. The group was engaged in conversation when their social gathering was abruptly interrupted by the arrival of four unknown individuals who emerged from a nearby gangway.
Without
warning, the four suspects opened fire on the group, unleashing a barrage of bullets. While the three people with Dorsey managed to flee the scene uninjured, Dorsey was struck multiple times, sustaining critical gunshot wounds to his head and chest. The suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting, leaving the victim critically injured on the ground. A nearby home also sustained damage from the gunfire during the ambush.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported Dorsey to a local hospital for urgent medical treatment. despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later, early on the morning of September 24, 2015. His death marked the 150th homicide in the city of St. Louis for that year. Dorsey was remembered by those who knew him as a father and a former student of Vashon and Lindbergh schools.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, St. Louis police launched an investigation, searching for the four suspects involved in the attack. Detectives reported that no specific description of the shooters was available at the time, and the motive for the ambush remained unclear. Despite the passage of time, no arrests have been publicly reported in connection with Sean Dorsey's murder, and the case appears to have gone cold with the perpetrators remaining at large.
