Anthony Demillo Williams, an 18-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on October 14, 2021, in Bedias, Texas. The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. when Grimes County Sheriff's Deputies responded to reports of multiple gunshots in the area of Leon and Sycamore Street. Upon arrival, authorities found Williams at the scene and transported him to a nearby Grimes St. Joseph's Medic station. Despite lifesaving efforts, Williams was later pronounced dead at Madisonville St.
Joseph's Emergency Room.
The investigation into Williams' death revealed that he was a student at Navasota Independent School District's W.B. Bizzell Academy. The Grimes County Sheriff's Office, along with the Grimes County District Attorney's Office and the Texas Rangers, launched an investigation to identify the suspects involved in the shooting. Williams' body was sent to Southwest Forensic Sciences in Dallas for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Four days after the shooting, two suspects, Alfredo Garza, 19, and Eric Damian Segovia, 20, both from Bedias, were arrested in connection with the murder. Initially, they were charged with Criminal Mischief, a state jail felony, and Deadly Conduct/Discharge of a Firearm, a third-degree felony. Garza also faced additional charges of Harboring a Runaway Child, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Possession of Marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor.
As the investigation progressed, further evidence, including autopsy and ballistic testing, was presented to a Grimes County Grand Jury. On December 28, 2022, the Grand Jury returned indictments against Garza and Segovia for first-degree felony charges of Murder and Aggravated Assault-Severe Bodily Injury from a Vehicle. Both suspects were arraigned in District Court and scheduled for trial.
Throughout the investigation, the Grimes County District Attorney's Office maintained communication with Williams' family, keeping them informed of every step in the process. The case remains a significant focus for local law enforcement as they seek justice for Anthony Demillo Williams and his family.
