On October 27, 2021, 19-year-old Daniel Mathis from Dallas, Texas, was tragically shot multiple times in the 2000 block of Cantura Drive in Mesquite, Texas. He was found on the ground by police officers who responded to a shooting call at around 10:51 p.m. Despite being rushed to a local hospital in serious condition, Mathis succumbed to his injuries later that night.
The Mesquite Police Department launched an investigation into Daniel Mathis's death and identified four suspects involved

The suspects were 19-year-old Rashaud Holmes from Dallas, 18-year-old Donterious Lockhart from Mesquite, 19-year-old Timothy Johnson from Seagoville, and 20-year-old Nicholas Mayberry from Duncanville. All four were arrested and charged with capital murder. Holmes was the last to be taken into custody, while the other three were arrested on or before November 10, 2021. They are currently being held in the Dallas County jail.
The investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in a shooting incident that led to Mathis's death. The police have been actively seeking information about Rashaud Holmes, offering a reward of up to $5,000 for any information leading to his arrest. The case remains under investigation, and the suspects are awaiting trial for their roles in the murder of Daniel Mathis.
