Alberto Garza Sr., a 68-year-old Hispanic male from Lubbock, Texas, was found dead in his home on December 26, 2021. The tragic incident occurred in the 500 block of 79th Street, where Garza was discovered with a gunshot wound. The Lubbock Police Department responded to a shots fired call at approximately 9:55 p.m. and found Garza deceased at the scene.
Another individual, Timothy Lovato, 42, also suffered serious injuries from the same shooting and was taken to University Medical Center for treatment.
The investigation led to the arrest of Joshua John Walker, a 44-year-old man from Lubbock County. Walker was charged with murder in connection with the death of Alberto Garza Sr. According to the arrest warrant, Walker was heavily intoxicated on the day of the incident and could not recall his actions. He admitted to owning firearms that matched the caliber of the shell casings found at the scene and to owning a white box truck that witnesses reported seeing near the crime scene. Walker's uncle and another witness provided statements that implicated Walker in the shooting. Walker's bond was set at $500,000.
