On January 29, 2022, 34-year-old Angela Fresquez was tragically shot and killed at the Walnut Forest Motel in North Austin, Texas. She was found unresponsive near a dumpster, having suffered a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of Austin-Travis County EMS medics to save her life, Fresquez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Austin Police Department launched an investigation into the incident and identified 33-year-old Matthew Moreno as the primary suspect.
According to witness accounts, Moreno had an argument with others in the motel room about money and subsequently chased Fresquez outside, where he shot her twice in the chin and neck area with a gun he had tucked inside the pocket of his hoodie. Moreno then allegedly took Fresquez's purse and fled the scene.
On February 14, 2022, the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested Moreno in the 5600 block of Springdale Road on a first-degree murder warrant. He was taken into custody and is being held without bond at the Travis County Jail. During the investigation, another suspect was identified and charged with aggravated robbery in connection with the incident.
