On February 19, 2022, Patricia Blanco, a 47-year-old woman from Robstown, Texas, was tragically shot and killed in her home. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 2:30 a.m., when Patricia's boyfriend, Torivio Leal, claimed that his revolver accidentally discharged while he was handling it. Leal, who was heavily intoxicated at the time, called 911 and reported the accidental shooting.
However, the police found Patricia dead from a single gunshot wound when they arrived at the scene.
Initially, Torivio Leal was arrested and charged with manslaughter. He claimed that the shooting was an accident and that he had no intention of harming Patricia. However, the investigation continued, and on July 11, 2024, a Nueces County grand jury indicted Leal on a murder charge. The grand jury found sufficient evidence to upgrade the charges from manslaughter to murder. Leal's case has been assigned to the 28th District Court, with a pretrial hearing scheduled for August 29, 2024, and his trial set for September 16, 2024.
