Von Staggs, a 63-year-old woman from Teague, Texas, tragically passed away on February 23, 2022. She was found deceased in the parking lot of Brookshire Brothers grocery store early that morning. Von Staggs was well-known and beloved in her community, having worked at various local businesses over the years, including McDonald's and Brookshire Brothers. She was also an active member of Cedar Stone Church in Teague.
The investigation into her death quickly determined it to be a homicide.
Texas Rangers, the Freestone County Sheriff's Office, and the Freestone County Attorney's Office have been assisting Teague Police with the ongoing investigation. Despite the efforts, no arrests have been made, and the case remains open. The community has been deeply affected by this loss, and a reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator.
Von Staggs is survived by her husband, Michael Staggs, her two daughters, Kat Gordon and Dottie Martin, and her grandchildren. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Freestone Cancer Support Group, which was important to Von during her battle with cancer.
The investigation continues, and the community remains hopeful that justice will be served for Von Staggs.
