Isaiah Ryan Orozco, a 21-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on February 28, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. The incident occurred at a downtown bus stop located on South St. Mary’s Street. According to reports, Isaiah was involved in an argument with another individual, Joseph Harris. During the altercation, both men drew firearms. As Isaiah attempted to walk away from the confrontation, Harris opened fire, striking Isaiah multiple times in the head and body.
Isaiah was transported to the hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The case quickly drew attention due to the violent nature of the incident and the young age of the victim. San Antonio police officers responded to the scene and apprehended Joseph Harris, who was taken into custody immediately. Harris was charged with murder and the trial commenced in the 187th District Court. Throughout the trial, the defense argued that Harris acted in self-defense, but the prosecution presented compelling evidence, including surveillance footage from a VIA bus that captured the entire incident.
The trial concluded with the jury finding Joseph Harris guilty of murder. On September 19, 2023, Harris was sentenced to 68 years in prison. The sentencing brought a mix of emotions for Isaiah's family, particularly his mother, Connie Esparza, who expressed her grief and the long journey toward seeking justice for her son. Despite the conviction, Harris has the right to appeal the decision, and the case remains a poignant reminder of the impact of gun violence and the loss of young lives.
