Jorge Leo Jaimes, an 18-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity from Hitchcock, Texas, tragically passed away on June 15, 2022, in Houston, TX. He was born on May 19, 2004, and was known for his mischievous ways and unique personality. Jorge was the beloved son of Leobardo Aviles and Anna Vanessa Jaimes, and he had seven siblings: Leobardo Jorge, Luis, Lynette, Lydia, Leah, Jaylen, and Jenise.
On the night of his death, Jorge and his friend Julian Becerra, also 18, were meeting with two
other men in the parking lot of a shopping center located at 12931 Nyack Drive in southeast Houston. During the meeting, a third man approached them and attempted to rob them, pulling out a gun. Jorge tried to drive away but was shot in the process. His friend Julian returned fire, hitting one of the suspects. Jorge was rushed to HCA Houston Healthcare Pearland, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, the Houston Police Department launched an investigation. Two suspects, Johnathan Rashon Carter, 18, and Damon W. Steber, 20, were arrested and charged with capital murder. A third suspect, Javier Raul Contreras, 20, was also charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The investigation revealed that Carter and Steber were involved in the robbery and shooting, while Contreras' exact role remains unclear.
