On the evening of June 15, 2022, at approximately 9:20 p.m., Harris County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 800 block of Dell Dale Street in east Harris County. Upon arrival, they discovered 42-year-old David Martinez, a Hispanic male, lying on the road with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services transported him to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigations revealed that David Martinez was driving a dark gray Mitsubishi
Outlander northbound on Dell Dale Street when he became involved in a road rage incident with 19-year-old Ricardo Ramirez, who was operating a tan Honda car. Both vehicles stopped at the traffic signal at Woodforest Boulevard, where Martinez exited his vehicle and approached the driver's side of Ramirez's car. At this point, Ramirez shot Martinez multiple times before fleeing the scene.
A witness at the scene identified Ricardo Ramirez as the shooter. Subsequently, some of Ramirez's family members arrived and persuaded him to return to the scene and surrender to authorities. Ricardo Ramirez was taken into custody and charged with murder. The Harris County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.
