Julie James Dykina, a 43-year-old Ukrainian woman, tragically lost her life on July 5, 2022, in League City, Texas. She was killed by her estranged husband, Kent Hollis James, in what was determined to be a murder-suicide. The couple had recently divorced but still shared a home in the Magnolia Creek subdivision. Their children discovered their bodies.
Dykina was known for her bravery and kindness, having rescued her children from Ukraine during the early days of Russia's invasion.
She was a proud Ukrainian mother who loved her three children and helped bring them to the U.S. just a few months before her death. Her daughter, Valeria James, spoke out about her mother's impact, saying that Dykina would always help others and be kind, no matter how they treated her.
The League City Police Department investigated the incident and concluded that it was an apparent murder-suicide. There were no arrests or suspects beyond Dykina's ex-husband, Kent James, who also died at the scene. The family has since created a GoFundMe to support Dykina's three children left behind.
Dykina's memorial was held at the Fellowship Community Church in Kemah, where family and friends gathered to remember her. Her daughter, Valeria, chose to focus on the lives her mother touched and the impact she had on others, rather than the tragic circumstances of her death.
The case did not lead to any further litigations or investigations, as it was determined to be a murder-suicide with no other suspects involved.
