She was a cosmetology graduate from Wade Gordon Academy and was well-known for her support of local bands and her artistic talents.
Karlee was a friend to many and a protector to her sisters, always willing to help those in need.
On the evening of September 23, 2022, Karlee Messer and another woman were shot during a robbery at the intersection of NW 3rd and Independence Street in Amarillo. The Amarillo Police Department quickly identified two male suspects in the shooting: 20-year-old Matthew Aidan Brewer and 21-year-old Adrian Sebastian Ulloa. Both men were arrested on murder warrants shortly after the incident. Brewer was apprehended at a residence on Royal Road, while Ulloa was found at a residence on Nelson Street. The investigation revealed that the two women were shot during a robbery. The suspects were charged with murder, and the case was investigated by the Amarillo Police Department Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit. In November 2024, Adrian Ulloa was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of Karlee Messer. Matthew Brewer, who also pled guilty, was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
