In the early hours of September 10, 2016, a burst of gunfire shattered the pre-dawn quiet in St. Louis, Missouri, leaving a scene of violence and loss. Ronsonie Sharron Scott, a 39-year-old Black/African American male, was caught in the deadly triple shooting that erupted around 3:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of Market Street. The attack was sudden and indiscriminate, as an unknown assailant, or assailants, opened fire on the vehicle in which Scott was a passenger.
Emergency services arrived to a chaotic scene. Inside the vehicle, first responders found 42-year-old Lewis Grant, who had succumbed to his injuries at the location. Scott, gravely wounded by the gunfire, was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he could not be saved and was pronounced dead. A third individual, a 31-year-old man, was also struck by bullets, sustaining wounds to his arm and flank. He was transported to the hospital and was listed in stable condition.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department's homicide division immediately began an investigation into the double homicide. Detectives worked to piece together the events leading up to the fatal shooting, but details about a motive or the number of suspects involved were not immediately available to the public. The investigation into the deaths of Ronsonie Sharron Scott and Lewis Grant remains ongoing.
