Aurimar Iturriago, a 21-year-old woman from Venezuela, tragically lost her life on October 29, 2022, in Carrollton, Texas. She was a passenger in a Nissan that became involved in a road rage incident with a Volkswagen Jetta. The dispute escalated as the vehicles continued southbound, and at some point, someone inside the Jetta began shooting at the Nissan.
One of the bullets struck Aurimar, who was in the backseat, and despite life-saving measures by responding officers and Carrollton Fire-Rescue, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect in this case, 25-year-old Shardrel Damon Webb from Dallas, was arrested and charged with murder. Webb was initially booked into the Carrollton City Jail and later transferred to the Dallas County Jail, where he is being held on a $300,000 bond. Investigators have not disclosed what initiated the dispute or if the individuals in the vehicles knew each other, and the investigation into the fatal shooting is ongoing.
Aurimar had recently arrived in the United States from Venezuela, hoping to build a better life for herself and her family. Her dream was to earn enough money to help her mother build a new house. Unfortunately, her life was cut short in this tragic incident, and her body was later donated to a local medical school without her family's knowledge. This led to further anguish for her family as they fought to have her remains returned to Venezuela.
The case has drawn attention to the broader issues of road rage incidents and the handling of unclaimed bodies in the U.S. Aurimar's story highlights the vulnerability of migrants and the challenges they face in seeking a better life in a new country.
