In the early morning hours of December 11, 1991, a tragic series of events unfolded in Mountain City, Tennessee, culminating in the death of 28-year-old Deputy Sheriff Allen Richard Lipford. A dedicated officer with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office for eight years, Lipford was fatally shot by an escaped felon. The suspect, a 24-year-old man, had managed to overpower two deputies and seize one of their service revolvers to facilitate his escape from the county jail.
