William Thomas Bishop, a 42-year-old male deputy sheriff with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department in Tennessee, tragically lost his life on May 2, 1997. He was escorting two prisoners to a local dentist's office when one of the inmates pulled out a concealed handgun and forced the dentist to call Deputy Bishop into the room. As Deputy Bishop entered, he was shot once in the back and, while lying on the floor, was shot again in the head, resulting in his death.
