In the quiet town of Munford, Tennessee, a young woman's life was cut tragically short on January 6, 2014. Laura Ann Rains, a 26-year-old Caucasian female, died from a gunshot wound to the head. The incident that led to her untimely death unfolded in a residence in the Munford Brighton area, where she lived with her husband.
According to her husband, William Christopher Rains, who was 25 at the time, the shooting was a terrible accident.
He told authorities that his wife was handing him a pistol when the weapon discharged, striking her. Laura was rushed to a hospital in Memphis, but her injury proved to be fatal, and she was pronounced dead. The initial call to the Tipton County Sheriff's Office was for an accidental shooting.
In the wake of the tragic event, William Rains was taken into custody. He was later released on a $50,000 bond. However, as the investigation progressed, the case took a more serious turn. Several months later, in July 2014, a Tipton County grand jury indicted William Christopher Rains on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with his wife's death. He was awaiting trial later that year.
