In the quiet community of Lookout Valley, Tennessee, a tragic event unfolded on April 9, 2014, ending the life of 24-year-old Jon E. Morris and two other men. The violence that erupted that day also left a fourth individual wounded. The bodies of Morris, Caleb N. Boozer, 29, and John F. Lang, 53, were discovered at a trailer park on Kelly's Ferry Road, a place they all called home.
Investigations into the triple homicide revealed a brutal scene. Morris had sustained eight gunshot wounds, with one to the brain proving to be instantly fatal. Boozer was found to have been shot fifteen times, and Lang died from a single gunshot wound to his upper back that caused fatal internal bleeding. A fourth victim, Matthew Callan, who was sixteen at the time, survived the shooting.
The subsequent investigation led to the arrests of Derek Morse and his co-defendant, Skyler Allen. Both men were charged with three counts of first-degree premeditated murder and one count of attempted first-degree premeditated murder. During the trial of Derek Morse, it was revealed that an altercation had occurred between Morse and Morris five days prior to the deadly shootings. On the evening of the murders, witnesses saw a car with three occupants, one of whom was identified as the backseat passenger loading a rifle, stop in front of the Morris residence before the fatal events transpired. A search for Jon Morris by his sister following the incident led to the discovery of his body under Mr. Lang's RV.
