In the quiet community of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, the life of 36-year-old Timothy Brandon Kemp was tragically cut short on the night of January 11, 2015. A residential and commercial electrician, Kemp was discovered by police responding to reports of gunfire at a local Motel 6. Officers found him inside a room, lying face down on a bed with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest.
At the scene, authorities encountered 64-year-old Keith Lynch, also of Goodlettsville.
Lynch was taken into custody and subsequently charged with one count of criminal homicide in connection with Kemp's death. The motive for the fatal shooting was not immediately clear as the investigation commenced, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden and violent loss of a father, son, and brother. Kemp, who was born in nearby Madison, Tennessee, was remembered as an avid baseball fan with a love for the Baltimore Orioles and Tennessee Volunteers football. He is survived by his daughter, parents, and sister.
The legal proceedings against Keith Lynch unfolded over a number of years. Initially facing a charge of first-degree murder, the case concluded on April 14, 2022. On that date, Lynch was found guilty of a lesser charge, voluntary manslaughter, which is classified as a felony. He was sentenced to serve 15 years in the Tennessee Department of Correction for his role in the death of Timothy Brandon Kemp.
