In the early evening of a December day in Knoxville, Tennessee, a dispute over something as ordinary as traffic escalated into a life-ending tragedy. Nicholas Allen Strange, a 23-year-old male, lost his life on December 7, 2016, in a sudden and violent encounter. The incident unfolded in the parking lot of a Weigel's convenience store located on Governor John Sevier Highway.

The events of that day began with a verbal altercation between Strange and another man, 41-year-old Jason Patrick Nasca. Both men were residents of Knoxville but were unknown to each other before their fateful meeting. What started as a disagreement related to a traffic incident quickly intensified. Nasca, who was in possession of a carry permit, produced a firearm and shot Strange. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Nasca turned the gun on himself, taking his own life.
