William Edward 'Eddie' McDonald, an 18-year-old male, was a recent graduate of Christian Brothers High School and a student at Southwest Tennessee Community College, with aspirations of becoming a police officer. On the night of December 10, 2016, he was at a party at the Country Squire Apartments in Cordova, Tennessee. An argument reportedly broke out when two males and a female were denied entry to the gathering.
After initially walking away, the individuals returned and began shooting at the people inside the apartment. In the chaos that ensued, Eddie was struck by a gunshot. He was found with an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother later shared that he died while trying to save a friend. His death was recorded as the 217th homicide in Memphis in 2016, setting a new record for the city at that time.
In the wake of the shooting, an investigation led to the arrests of two suspects, Aaron Marr and Jeylon Harvey. They were both charged with first-degree murder and other related charges. A third individual was also later charged in connection with the murder. The suspects were held in jail without bond as they awaited court appearances.
