In March of 2017, in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 39-year-old Luis Santiago was tragically cut short. A Hispanic man, Santiago became the victim of a violent crime that began with a terrifying home invasion and kidnapping.
The harrowing ordeal unfolded when two men forced their way into Santiago's home. There, they abducted both Santiago and his wife at gunpoint, forcing them into the couple's own Chevrolet truck.
After robbing both victims, Santiago's wife managed to escape the captors and alert the authorities. Her husband, however, was not so fortunate.
Following an intense search, Luis Santiago's body was discovered in a wooded area near the corner of Getwell and Winchester. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. The discovery confirmed the family's worst fears and launched a homicide investigation.
The investigation led to the identification of suspects. Police named 17-year-old Kevvon Clark as a person of interest in the case. Another suspect, 19-year-old Jamarcus Thomas, was later apprehended in Bolivar County, Mississippi. Thomas faced a litany of serious charges, including first-degree murder, first-degree murder in perpetration of kidnapping, and aggravated rape. While one suspect was in custody awaiting extradition to Tennessee, Memphis police continued their search for the second individual involved in the brutal crime.
