In the late summer of 2017, the community of Cleveland, Tennessee, was shaken by the unexpected death of 45-year-old Deanna Michelle 'DeeDee' O'Daniel. A former corrections officer and 911 dispatcher with the Bradley County Sheriff's Office, O'Daniel was a familiar face in local law enforcement circles. Her life came to a tragic end on August 15, 2017, at her home on Old Tasso Place NE.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was brought in to lead the inquiry into the shooting. As investigators began their work, a picture of the events that transpired started to form. They determined that Deanna O'Daniel, a Caucasian female, died from a gunshot wound. After a thorough investigation, which included gathering evidence and speaking with individuals connected to the case, the TBI concluded that the wound was self-inflicted.
With the determination that no foul play was involved, the investigation into Deanna O'Daniel's death was closed. Consequently, there were no suspects identified and no arrests were made in connection with the incident. The news of her passing sent ripples through the community, particularly among her former colleagues at the sheriff's office, who remembered her years of dedicated service. She was survived by her husband, who was a deputy with the Bradley County Sheriff's Office, as well as a son and two stepsons.
