A woman was driving the vehicle, with Christopher Garrett in the front passenger seat and Paul Shane Strickland, a 46-year-old from the nearby city of Athens, seated in the back. As the argument between Garrett and Strickland intensified, the driver heard a sudden 'popping sound' and witnessed Garrett slump over in his seat. In a desperate attempt to save his life, she sped toward the nearest hospital, but in her haste, she was involved in a collision with another vehicle on the highway.
