In the early morning darkness of October 7, 2019, Christopher Lamont Guyton, a 27-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in the front yard of his residence in the Raleigh neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee. Guyton was reportedly on his way to work when he was ambushed by one or more unknown individuals who fired multiple shots, striking him several times.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Having moved to the East Hickory Bluff home only two months prior, the motive behind the shooting remains a mystery to investigators, as robbery did not appear to be a factor since nothing was taken from him. Neighbors reported hearing as many as ten gunshots around 5:23 a.m., followed by the anguished screams of Guyton's girlfriend, with whom he shared a one-year-old son.
Family members, including his uncle Orko Guyton, expressed profound grief and bewilderment over the senseless act of violence, describing Christopher as a good man who enjoyed joking and talking about sports. They are left grappling with the tragic loss of a loved one and the absence of answers or justice.
The Memphis Police Department has investigated the homicide, but the case has since gone cold. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Christopher Guyton. Authorities have continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the ongoing investigation.
