In a tragic turn of events on the night of November 15, 2019, 33-year-old Deontrea Milligan lost his life during a home invasion in Clarksville, Tennessee. The incident unfolded on Dandelion Drive when at least two intruders entered the residence through an unlocked door. At the time, multiple adults and two children were present in the home. A confrontation ensued, leading to gunfire that proved fatal for both Milligan and one of the intruders, 37-year-old Nicoli Jefferies. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Clarksville Police Department's investigation into the double homicide led them to identify three suspects: George Northington, Rasheem Greenwood II, and Richard “Kenny” Woodson. A crucial piece of evidence, a cell phone found at the crime scene, was determined to belong to Northington. He was subsequently charged with criminal homicide in Milligan's death and turned himself in to the police. Greenwood and Woodson were also implicated in the planning and execution of the home invasion.
The legal proceedings that followed saw two of the suspects, George Northington and Rasheem Greenwood II, accept plea deals in November 2021. They pleaded guilty to lesser charges of voluntary manslaughter and especially aggravated burglary. As part of their agreement, they were to provide truthful testimony against the third defendant, Richard “Kenny” Woodson. Woodson, however, maintained his innocence and his case went to trial. In a surprising turn, the prosecution argued that Woodson, who was Milligan's best friend and was present during the home invasion, had actually set up the robbery. The defense countered, stating that after an intruder shot Milligan in the hand, Milligan armed Woodson, who then fired at the intruders, killing Jefferies. In February 2023, a jury found Richard “Kenny” Woodson not guilty of all charges.
