An evening in Trenton, Tennessee, took a tragic turn on Sunday, December 8, 2019, resulting in the death of 18-year-old Madisson Bright. A former student of West Carroll High School, she was at a house on South Lexington Street with several other people when the fatal incident occurred. The gathering was tragically interrupted by a single gunshot. Bright was rushed to the Milan Emergency Room but was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified a person of
interest, 23-year-old Deandrez Belew. With assistance from the Milan Police Department, Trenton officers located and took Belew into custody that same day. He was subsequently incarcerated at the Gibson County Correctional Complex. The initial investigation suggested that the shooting was not intentional but rather the result of reckless behavior.
Based on evidence and witness statements, authorities believed that Belew had been brandishing a handgun when it accidentally discharged, striking Bright. There were approximately five or six individuals in the home at the time, with three to four, including Bright and Belew, in the room where the shooting happened. Following a meeting with the District Attorney, the Trenton Police Department charged Belew with reckless homicide. He was scheduled for an arraignment in Trenton City Court.
