In the Hickory Hill neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee, a dispute between neighbors on March 18, 2020, escalated into a tragedy that would ultimately claim the life of 45-year-old Jamorris Hope. That day, Hope was engaged in an argument with another man in the driveway of his home on Maple Leaf Cove.
As the argument unfolded, a black SUV arrived at the scene. Two men, later identified as Tywaun Bonds, 30, and Deunte Stone, 21, exited the vehicle and opened fire on Hope.
He was struck multiple times in the legs, with one of the bullets severing a femoral artery. Hope was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
For weeks, Jamorris Hope fought for his life, but his injuries proved to be too severe. On May 7, 2020, he succumbed to his wounds and passed away. The investigation into the shooting led to the arrests of the two suspected gunmen. Deunte Stone was taken into custody approximately a week after the incident, while Tywaun Bonds was arrested later on July 29 of that year.
In July 2021, a Shelby County grand jury indicted both Tywaun Bonds and Deunte Stone on charges of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Jamorris Hope. The case was assigned to the District Attorney's Special Prosecution Unit, which focuses on seeking maximum sentences for repeat felony offenders. Both men were held in the Shelby County Jail following their indictment.
