In a tragic turn of events on January 22, 2021, Russell 'Rusty' Craig Williams, a 50-year-old male from Newport, Tennessee, was fatally shot at his residence. The incident unfolded when Garrett Dustin Cameron allegedly arrived at the home and demanded the keys to a vehicle. When Williams did not comply, Cameron is said to have shot him.
Following the shooting, Cameron reportedly threatened other individuals present at the scene before attempting to flee in Williams' vehicle.
However, his escape was short-lived as he was quickly apprehended by the Cocke County Sheriff's Office. Authorities have indicated that Cameron appeared to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
