In the early morning hours of February 9, 2021, the life of 19-year-old Jamarien J. Douglass, a Black male from Jackson, Tennessee, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. The fatal encounter unfolded outside a short-term rental unit located at 1007 11th Avenue South in Nashville's Edgehill community. Douglass was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that a party had taken place at the rental property, attended by at least 13 individuals who
were not from Nashville. As detectives delved into the circumstances surrounding the incident, interviews with those present at the party pointed to a single individual as the alleged shooter.
This led investigators to identify 24-year-old Isahia D. Gooch of Murfreesboro as the primary suspect. A murder warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest. Authorities believed that Gooch fled the scene in a silver Hyundai Accent as police were arriving. The motive for the shooting was suspected to be a drug-related robbery.
In March 2021, Isahia Gooch surrendered to authorities at the Downtown Detention Center in Nashville. He was charged with criminal homicide for the death of Jamarien Douglass. The case proceeded through the legal system, and Gooch was ultimately convicted of the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter. On October 31, 2024, he was sentenced to 11 years in the Tennessee Department of Correction.
