In a tragic turn of events stemming from a custody dispute, 36-year-old Trevon Hall was killed on September 25, 2021, in Athens, Tennessee. An African American male, Hall was one of four victims found deceased from gunshot wounds at a residence in Riceville, a community in McMinn County. The other victims were identified as Skylar Hawn, 24, Jesse Dupree, 40, and Brandi Harris, 39.
The incident unfolded when Trevon Hall's former partner, Jazzmine Jacole Hall, and a man named Curtis Donnel
Smith arrived at the home. A dispute over the 10-month-old child shared by Trevon and Jazzmine Hall escalated into a violent altercation. According to court documents, Jazzmine Hall fatally shot Trevon Hall in the face before handing the firearm to Smith, instructing him to shoot the remaining individuals. Two other people at the residence survived the attack; one managed to escape and call for help, while the other pretended to be dead to avoid being shot. Before fleeing the scene with the child, the suspects attempted to set the house on fire.
Following a SWAT operation, Jazzmine Hall and Curtis Donnel Smith were apprehended and taken into custody. The 10-month-old child was found safe and placed in the care of the Tennessee Department of Children's Services. Both suspects were charged with four counts of premeditated murder, attempted first-degree murder, kidnapping, and arson.
In April 2024, as jury selection for her trial was about to commence, Jazzmine Hall pleaded guilty to the charges against her. She received four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole. Curtis Donnel Smith also pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and other charges in May 2024 and was sentenced to life in prison.
