Diana Ellen Naomi Judd, a 76-year-old female, passed away on April 30, 2022, at her home in Leiper's Fork, Tennessee. Her death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The day of her passing was tragically one day before she was to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame with her daughter, Wynonna, as the iconic duo, The Judds.
For years, Judd had openly battled with her mental health, facing a debilitating struggle with depression, anxiety, and panic attacks.
Her family described her condition as being 'dogged by an unfair foe.' An autopsy report confirmed that at the time of her death, she had several prescription medications in her system used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder and bipolar disorder. She had a known medical history of anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. In the time leading up to her death, she was reportedly experiencing recent life stressors.
On that fateful day, she was found unresponsive in her home by her family. She was transported to the Williamson Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. At the scene, a note with suicidal connotations was discovered near her. Her daughter, Ashley Judd, later publicly confirmed that her mother's death was by suicide, stating the family wanted to be the ones to share the manner of her death to raise awareness about mental illness. There were no arrests made or suspects identified as her death was ruled a suicide. Her family, including her husband Larry Strickland and daughters Wynonna and Ashley Judd, later filed a petition to seal the police reports and recordings from the investigation to protect their privacy and prevent further trauma.
