In the early morning hours of June 16, 2022, a young man's life was abruptly and violently cut short in the Edge District of Memphis, Tennessee. Antavious Buford, a 21-year-old male, was behind the wheel of his silver Hyundai Sonata, navigating the intersection of Danny Thomas Boulevard and Madison Avenue. It was in this ordinary city setting that his life would take a tragic and irreversible turn.
Without warning, his car was besieged by a hail of bullets.
Investigators later determined that individuals in two separate vehicles, a gray Chevrolet Camaro and a black Infiniti SUV, both with tinted windows, had opened fire on Buford's car. The barrage of gunfire was relentless, with multiple rounds piercing the Hyundai. Struck by numerous bullets, Buford lost control of his vehicle, which then crashed, adding to the chaotic scene. However, it was the gunshots that proved to be fatal.
First responders arrived to a scene of chaos and violence, discovering Buford inside his vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite any efforts to save him, his injuries were too severe. The Memphis Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the brazen and senseless act of violence. Surveillance footage captured images of the suspect vehicles, providing crucial leads for law enforcement. Authorities have actively sought the individuals responsible, urging the public for any information that could lead to their identification and capture. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Antavious Buford. The case remains an open and active investigation as police continue their work to bring justice for him and his loved ones.
