In the summer of 2022, a simmering argument between two men who were known to each other escalated into a fatal encounter in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Anthony Dwayne Guy, a 32-year-old man, was shot in the chest and later died from his injuries on July 7, 2022. The incident, which unfolded in the 1000 block of Oak Street, led to the immediate arrest of a suspect at the scene.
Authorities identified the alleged shooter as 27-year-old Ryan D. Williams of Bluff City.
An investigation by the Elizabethton Police Department revealed that the two men were acquainted; Williams' sister was Guy's girlfriend. According to police statements, the dispute intensified when Guy slapped Williams, who then allegedly responded by shooting Guy with a handgun. Emergency services transported Guy to Sycamore Shoals Hospital, but he did not survive.
Following the shooting, Williams was taken into custody by police for questioning and was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. He was then booked into the Carter County Jail. The case against Ryan Williams is making its way through the legal system. Anthony Guy was remembered by loved ones as a kind and caring person who brought joy to those around him. He was a father to two sons and a daughter.
