Rakeem Alexander was a 22-year-old Black man and a father of one child. A 2013 graduate of Jackson-olin High School, he lived in his home city of Birmingham, Alabama.
On the evening of Monday, November 27, 2017, Rakeem was in the apartment he shared with his grandfather at the Southside Apartments complex, located in the 2900 block of Clairmont Avenue.
According to investigators, several other people were inside the residence with him before violence erupted.
That night, multiple gunshots were fired inside the apartment. Rakeem was struck by the gunfire and died from his injuries.
The Birmingham Police Department launched a homicide investigation into his death. During their inquiry, detectives learned that narcotics were allegedly being sold from the apartment. At the time, police announced they had no suspects in custody.
