Police Officer Clarence Lawrence Eaton, aged 28, was shot and killed on August 16, 1902, while attempting to break up a fight at a dance held at Heslep's Grove in Donora, Pennsylvania. Officer Eaton, who was off-duty and attending the dance with his wife, had initially managed to calm the situation and asked the attendees to be peaceful.
