On the evening of December 23, 1979, the community of Chester, Pennsylvania, was shaken by a tragic event that claimed the life of Joseph Hoffman, a 67-year-old male. Joseph, accompanied by Father William Benonis, was making the short walk from St. Michael's Church to the rectory after a church bingo game.
