Corporal David William Witmer, aged 35, was a dedicated officer with the Shamokin City Police Department in Pennsylvania. On November 13, 1983, he responded to a mutual aid call from the Zerbe Township police chief. Tragically, he was shot and killed by a suspect who had gone into a jealous rage after his ex-girlfriend received an obscene phone call. The suspect mistakenly believed that the auto-body garage he set on fire belonged to his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend.
