In the winter of 1987, the political career of Robert 'Budd' Dwyer, a 47-year-old Caucasian male, came to a tragic and shocking end in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Dwyer, who served as the Treasurer of Pennsylvania, had been embroiled in a scandal that would ultimately lead to a desperate and public act. His death on January 22, 1987, was not the result of a criminal act by another, but a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a press conference he had called.
