Gianni David Gossitt, 22, male, was found unresponsive in a north Minneapolis alley late on Sunday, November 18, 2012. Officers were dispatched a little after 10 p.m. to the 3900 block of Dupont Avenue North, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner later identified him and determined he died from a gunshot wound to the chest. He lived only a few blocks from where he was found, and his death was ruled a homicide.
In the immediate aftermath, Minneapolis police asked the public for information as homicide investigators canvassed the area. News reports at the time noted that no arrests had been made, and authorities did not publicly identify a suspect or motive. His killing occurred the same weekend as another, unrelated death just blocks away, adding urgency to the investigation but yielding no announced breakthroughs. Public obituaries and cemetery records later marked his birth on August 18, 1990, and his interment at Crystal Lake Cemetery following funeral services at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church.
