John White Pork Strand, a 19-year-old male of African American ethnicity from Chester, PA, tragically died on August 7, 2007. He was shot and killed following a confrontation at Green and McIlvain streets. According to the Delaware County Medical Examiner’s office, Strand died of a single gunshot wound to the left arm. He was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:26 p.m.
The investigation into Strand's death led to the arrest of Edgardo Gutierrez
Jr., also known as "Macho," who was identified as a suspect in January 2008. Gutierrez was apprehended in Philadelphia in October 2008, thanks to an anonymous tip. He faced charges of first- and third-degree murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, possessing instruments of crime, and firearms not to be carried without a license.
Strand was remembered fondly by his community as someone who loved music, football, and raising his baby daughter, Aaliyahj Lopez Strand. His death was one of 27 homicides in Chester in 2007.
