On December 6, 2009, Patrolman Michael James Crawshaw, aged 32, of the Penn Hills Township Police Department, tragically lost his life in an ambush while responding to a disturbance call at a residence in the 200 block of Johnston Road. Crawshaw, who had been with the Penn Hills Police Department for two and a half years, was the first officer to arrive on the scene.
