Jamecia I. Toler, a 22-year-old woman from Chester, PA, tragically lost her life on February 19, 2012. She was the loving daughter of Howard Toler and Jean Bishop Ingram, and was born and raised in Chester. Jamecia graduated from Chester High School in 2009.
The circumstances surrounding Jamecia's death were part of a violent shooting spree that occurred at J&S Seafood on Eighth and Kerlin streets in Chester.
Edwin Soto Jr., a 23-year-old man from Chester, was convicted of first-degree murder for Jamecia's death. During the trial, it was revealed that Soto had been involved in an altercation at a bar in Harrah’s Casino and Racetrack in Chester the night before the shooting. The incident escalated when Soto and his brother, Darryl Moore, encountered Jamecia and Magina Slowe at J&S Seafood.
Soto's actions resulted in the death of Jamecia Toler and injuries to his brother and former girlfriend. Witnesses testified that Soto shot Jamecia after pulling her out of a car and firing several shots at her. Despite defense arguments that Soto was too intoxicated to form the specific intent to kill, he was convicted on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated assault.
